Glucocorticoid (GC) excess, whether exogenously- or endogenously-derived, induces many adverse effects in skin including thinning, decreased cellularity and reduced collagen synthesis. Consequently, skin exhibits reduced dermal structural integrity, increased atrophy/fragility/bruising and impaired wound healing, effects that perfectly mimic skin ageing.
